Not a moment too soon. Now the West-Austin bourgeoisie liberals will have to find another place to take their Volvo SUVs to find a $9 Margarita under the highly-sanitized and removed pretense of communing with nature. The Oasis has burned down.[what and odd thing to say. . .]
Each night, when the sun finally set, a bell would ring and patrons gathered on the many decks of The Oasis would give the scene a standing ovation.

Early Wednesday morning, during a heavy lightning storm, a fire destroyed part of the 23-year-old landmark, causing up to $2 million in damage to the sprawling restaurant.

"It's a tremendous loss," said Mary Miner, who works down the street from The Oasis. "To me, it's one of the landmarks of Austin. It's a big spot for boaters and tourists, to be able to sit out and see the view."
It was a beautiful view, but that place crystallized everything I hated about Austin. I'm not sad to see it go, but I know that it's never going to go away. It will be rebuilt, or something just as bad will take its place.
