Just what the Texas Panhandle needed: Rain. Just what they didn't need: Lightning sparking off seven more
grass fires. Nature briefly opened up a new battleground in the waning Panhandle fire fight once again Friday as a lightning bolt pitted man against flame and caused a traffic headache along Interstate 40.
Firefighters from Panhandle, Pantex, Claude, Washburn and White Deer and Texas Forest Service aircraft squelched the blaze a short time after it broke out about 1:45 p.m. Friday, Panhandle Assistant Fire Chief Jay Baze said.
