Thirty nine years ago today, mankind set foot on another world. Today, the coolest thing we have from that is this. But we have Bush's vision for space exploration which has not generated any more public interest or support than a shuttle launch does. Possibly because the new Orion program has solicited public involvement that ranges from the bizarre to the macabre. So are we going to make it again? Who knows. November should say a lot. But ultimately, if the public doesn't want 0.6ยข of their tax dollars spent on such endeavours, then NASA will go the way of the dodo.
