I don't quite understand marathons, but there were two of them in Houston this weekend, one was the annual Houston Marathon, and the other was the trials for the 2012 U.S. Olympic team. The winner of the Olympic marathon had a time of 2:09:08, while the guy that won the non-Olympic marathon the next day had a time of 2:06:51. So why isn't THAT guy on the Olympic team?

Pointlessly running 26 miles has claimed three more victims in Detroit this weekend:
Three runners died Sunday during the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon in Detroit, Michigan, police told CNN.

his 60s fell and hit his head, Roach said. The cause of the fall was unknown. The man was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two other men, aged 36 and 26, also collapsed during the race and were pronounced dead at the hospital, Roach said.
Why not try counting to a million for no fucking reason? Much lower body count.

Pointless running claims one more.
A 29-year-old Austin woman running in the Dallas White Rock Marathon collapsed on Sunday and died, officials said.
Like sticking a wet fork in a light socket, some things aren't worth doing, just "to say you did it."

Once again someone falls prey to a marathon.
Top distance runner Ryan Shay died during the U.S. men's Olympic marathon trials Saturday after collapsing about 5 1/2 miles into the race. He was 28.

Shay was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital and was pronounced dead at 8:46 a.m., New York Road Runners president Mary Wittenberg said.
Sadly preventable.

The first Marathon runner 2,500 years ago dropped dead when he finished, and the tradition continues.
Organizers shut down the course four hours after the start of Sunday's Chicago Marathon because of 88-degree heat and sweltering humidity that left one runner dead and sent 250 people to area hospitals with heat-related ailments.
I don't want to belittle anyone's death, but 88ยบ? That's what we call a South Texas cool front. Also, and I'm no genius, but I think I see a way out of this. Don't run 26.2 miles in the freakin' heat, morons.
